Participants are expected to stay for 2 hours, the full duration of the session. This production will primarily be in English, however, we would like to include monologues in Spanish and Creole.
This workshop and audition process is like no other; all women (and those who identify as a woman) can attend – YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A PROFESSIONAL ACTRESS. Additionally, interested individuals will sign up for one of the three group sessions and should be prepared to commit to stay for the entire time. The Vagina Monologues is an ensemble piece that holds a safe space for women and therefore so will the audition process.
One of the most popular and produced plays in recent history, The Vagina Monologues comprises a varying number of monologues read by women from all walks of life. Each monologue addresses an aspect of the feminine experience, touching on matters such as sex, love, rape, menstruation, female genital mutilation, masturbation, birth, orgasm, the various common names for the vagina, or simply as a physical aspect of the body. But a binding theme throughout the entire piece is the celebration of the vagina as a tool for female empowerment, and the ultimate embodiment of individuality.
