This Org Toolkit on Housing Co-ops lead by Judith Turner will be divided into three main parts.
1. Introduction to the cooperative business model
We will give an overview of what a co-op is, the types of co-ops, the seven co-op principles, and shared co-op values.
2. Housing Co-ops are Corporations Too!
We will examine the different types of housing co-ops, giving examples of local and national housing co-ops and how they contribute to affordable housing.
3. Introduction to Youth-Owned Cooperatives
We will define what a youth co-op is, how they are started and operated and examine examples of successful long-running business.
All sessions will be followed with a Q&A.
About the Speaker:
Judith Turner is the Executive Director at Florida-CEED. Working in the construction sector all of her career, Judith started and operated contracting firms in four states and now holds multiple state licenses in Florida. While still running the occasional day-to-day operations at e-construction group, she devotes all of her free time as a cooperative developer building the platform for cooperative economics, a passion that is shared by the broader community in St. Petersburg.

The Center for Social Change is located on the corner of Coral Way and SW 21st Avenue in the offices above Xixon restaurant, on the second floor.
The parking details below are specific to this event.
If you’re traveling by car:Â The Center has free parking on Floor 2B of the parking garage attached to 2103 Coral Way. If these spots are full, metered spaces are available on Floor 2A. Cash, Park Jockey, and Pay-by-Phone are all accepted.
Floor 2A is the accessible floor and has disabled permit parking. Electric vehicle recharging stations are also available.
There is also metered parking adjacent to the building payable with Pay-by-Phone and there is some free street parking in the surrounding neighborhood, especially south of Coral Way. Be sure to observe “Residents Only” and “No Parking” areas.
If you’re traveling via mass transit:Â Miami-Dade Bus #24 and the free City of Miami Coral Way Trolley both stop just around the corner from the building. Both bus lines connect to the Vizcaya Metrorail Station at Coral Way and SW 12th Ave.
If you’re traveling by bike:Â Bicycle racks can be found along the sidewalk in front of the building and in the garage.
